Hi all! Long story short I feel like I'm ripped off. Basically a month ago had the clutch, dmf changed and gearbox repaired.

Now the car broke down again. I'll put it in gear and the car won't drive off. Engine is running fine.

Took the car back to the garage that did all the clutch, gearbox etc. And now they said it's the drive shaft. Seriously from my limited knowledge this is connected to the gearbox. Surely if it was in a poor condition they would've seen it.

    Audi a3 2006 1.9 manual.

Any ideas are very welcome. Thanks for all your support.

Unless the cv boots were in poor condition or there was obvious damage then no reason to replace it at the time
So unless they didn't tighten it properly and it just came apart then I don't think they're ripping you off

I've had someone saying that before a drive shaft goes it will give obvious signs and make noises. I've had none of that.

Well they snapped the oil dipstick plastic tube. And said notging about it. I feel like the job was done sloppy

What gearbox repair did you have? A strip down and re-build or a 2nd hand unit??

A strip down and rebuild by a separate garage specialized in gearboxes. The main garage had to the job to take it out and put it back and while they were at it they said the clutch and dmf needs replacing which they did. Now I should note that behind the wheel there was oil sprayed over the plastic when the car broke down. However since the plastic tube for oil dipstick is snapped I get oil sprayed over under the bonnet I'm not sure the thing behind is from the driveshaft...

From the basic information you can give, that is the outer constant velocity joint which has failed internally and is NOTHING to do with the gearbox or its internals, it would be like saying my rear brake pads have worn out since you did my front brakes. The PQ35 platform (Golf 5, A3 Mk2 etc) outer CV boot is extremely prone to failure and may have been replaced too late in the past leading to joint wear so removing it can trigger a problem but it is not the fault of the garage who did the other work, it is consequential. There may have been signs apparent at the time which they missed or did not report but still, not their fault.

That is quite reasonable, I think they have “looked after you” there to try and calm the situation down... to their cost.
