I've been trying to hunt down why my old B5 99 Passat that doesn't even have alarm, has a locked and dormant 200 mA current draw. What I have recently noticed (no idea how long it has been so) is that the backlight for every button and knob in the car *never* shut off, regardless of how long it is sitting, locked or not, position of the headlight knob etc. Combined I'm sure all these little lights make for a good 100mA draw or so(?)

I've been googling and trawling through the forums for at least 2 days, and haven't been able to find a single mention I could extrapolate useful information from. Do any of you guys have any pointers? Is it *supposed* to be like this? If not, what should it be doing, and what's controlling it? Any ideas as to what would likely be tripping it up?
