The coolant used, G12, is orange and muddy. The latest spec is purple, G13.

We've been here before! A3 Coolant and Coolant Hoses

If it has G11 it should be clear and pale blue, if G12 through G13 it should be clear and pink.

If it is orange and muddy, it is full of rust, or just maybe a mixture of G11 and a later liquid, and should be flushed thoroughly with clean fresh water.

The system should be drained and refilled and the radiator and heater matrix back flushed until clean water comes out.

Detailed instructions for this can be found in a Haynes manual or similar.

My cooling system contains 7.5 litres, so, after flushing out, for a 40% mixture (2 parts G13 to 3 parts distilled water) giving protection to -24șC, I add 2.5 litres of G13 to the system and top up with distilled water..

If you bought G12++ this can be mixed with any of the G12 to G13 liquids, but NOT with G11.
