Hi everyone. I've bought a 2017 S4 and loving it so far, but as ive come from a 2008 A6 I have a few queries on the keyless side of things. New technology for me !

Im not sure what type of key this should be as googling it seems that i get a variety of types and what their functions are and its hard to pin down what 'should' be happening.

For mine at least, It seems I have to manually press the unlock button on the key fob, in order for it to open, but after that just leave the key anywhere, and press the engine start button. Likewise i need to manually lock by pressing the lock button on the key again. Both keys behave in the same way.

So it doesnt seem to me to be true 'keyless entry' really, more of a keyless start. Is this normal ? I cant find anything in the MMI that seems to help. The car is still in warranty.

I am also a little concerned reading about repeaters, but as I need to press the button, am I actually affected by this?

Other than this , what a great car so far, a real step up in every department.

Sounds like standard key rather than keyless to me unless anyone else can help.....it's exactly the same method for me. My mum's keyless entry A1 means she can just walk up to the car and open it (after pressing the black square on the door handle). Can you check the options fitted using 'myaudi' online?

Ah right. Great, this is good ! thats reset my expectation.

Just looked again at options and it says 'Keyless go' which although not as convenient as the convenience / advanced key, fits my needs perfectly what with all this scanning malarkey going on.

I think I over googleised my head, mercedes 'keyless go' does doors as well it seems. Back in the old days a key was a key.

At least its doing what it should be doing for now at least !
