I have a 56 plate manual transmission Audi A6 with 168K miles on it. I find that it hesitates while accelerating. Sometimes if I push the accelerator, the rpm goes up high and then drops. I am still able to drive at highway speeds, but it just accelerates very slowly. I checked in a local Garage and he said the clutch needs replacing, without a test ride or any diagnostics. I see clutch replacement is quite expensive. Is this an obvious issue/wear&tear at this mileage or could this be something else?

If it's the clutch, what are the parts involved? I can see the following on eurocarparts. Is this what I need to buy?

Sounds like a clutch replacement to me. Had A3 2.0 TDI (LUK + flywheel) clutch dune recently, cost just over £800, just to give you an idea. If you're sourcing the parts yourself, speak to the shop yourself - they will probably be able to identify the exact clutch kit needed (eg. LUK or Sachs).

Thanks for the info. I will check with the Shop on the exact parts required.
