    Hi,
I have just changed the fuel filter on my 2003 Passat B5.5 1.9TDi auto. The car started immediately after the filter change then died as the fuel in the system was used up. I have turned the key on and off many times and and tried to start the engine many times without success. I have disconnected the pipe on the fuel filter outlet and diesel gushes out when the ignition is turned on. The Haynes manual says the system doesn't need priming on this model. Any suggestions?

What they don't tell you to do is fill the new filter with clean diesel before you fit it.
Try and fill it , refit the pipes and see if it runs.
I've had the same car since 2006 and it's always been done by filling them first, never been a problem.

Thanks Guys. Charged the battery overnight and cranked it for a long time this morning. Eventually it burst into life.
