Hi - I have had an issue with the airbag light coming on in my car and not being able to reset it. The fault code mentioned that something was not earthing properly. The garage have now said they have investigated and been told by Audi the airbag ECU needs changing at a cost of £1,200!! I fail to see why this should go wrong in a car that has only done 44k miles, has always been maintained by an Audi main dealer and has not been involved in an accident. Has anyone else had this sort of issue? If so, have they complained to Audi and got anywhere? Any info / advice will be much appreciated.

I think you need to specify your car, and the MY. If you purchased as new, and it's not too old, you can have a goodwill from Audi.

However, if there is only a grounding problem, then IMHO you should find a specialist first, as probably the airbag has no problem, but only a cable has lost the connectivity. In my experience, Audi never try to repair the failed components, but they replace even the easily repairable units.

Hi - thanks for your reply.

I have a 2012 A6 2.0 tdi which was purchased from the main dealer who has always serviced it since. I have now discovered that the fault code that was being shown relates to a piece of equipment that isn't even on my car! Therefore Audi's simple solution for the garage was to replace the ECU. I am about to contact Audi directly as I cannot see how the ECU was fit for purpose when it was installed if it can bring up faults on items that don't exist. An more advice or help will still be much appreciated though.

Highly unlikely you car will be coded for an item that was never fitted to your car and has never had an issue until now. Whats the fault code they gave you? speak to a few airbag specialists who can recode airbag units as thye will know these units very well as an audi techy's knowledge is limited to what he can see on the screen in front of him
