I have just been on a tyre website to get an idea of prices and it suggested my allroad would need 225/60R16 tyres. The ones currently fitted are 225/55R17. Were the 17" wheels a normal factory fits or has someone been tinkering?

Interestingly, if I specify 225/60R17 some of the results says "BMW fitment". Is there something odd about BMW wheels that mean these tyres would not fit on the Audi wheels?

Most likely BMW is known for using that dimension more often than the others. PCD and offset is what you need to know when choosing rims. PCD must be correct, while the offset can be close the factory claimed value.
