It had harsh ride when I bought it 3 years ago. Changed quite a few parts in the front and back suspension (it never settles, this complex multi link front setup always breaks down, some new rattling sound every few months) Every time I'd change some part I thought that the ride is a little better, but here we are, the ride is still very harsh. Like a lot harsher than a MK5 Golf, maybe 3 times harsher. For me the A6 C5 is not a comfortable car. I also have 4 new shock absorbers and new shock mounts at the rear.
-Do you find the ride of your A6 C5 harsh?
-Is there anything you can do about it?

I forgot to mention, its an Avant. Maybe the body structure and shape causes the sound of the potholes to protrude throughout the whole interior, acting like a speaker? Its my first avant, I wouldn't know, sounds similar to a van.

My C5 was firm but never harsh. I changed all the multi links at the front at 130k miles for quality replacements as it was starting to knock. You need to torque some of the bolts with weight on the wheel. You also need to use good quality parts. C5 is getting old now and probably the bushes will all be rotten. The multi link suspension shouldn't break down every few months unless you are using poor quality parts or they are being installed incorrectly.

I changed the front lower curved control arm. The knocking sound is over for now. The car feels much more comfortable atm.

Pig of a job but well worth it. My bushes were all in poor condition and I also did the track rod ends. Had to get a friend to grind some of the bolts off!

What brand do you use for the suspension parts (bushings, control arms)

That's one of the best brands out there. How much did you pay for it?

It's a long time ago but think it was around £350 delivered. I remember thinking it had cost me about 400 to change them as I needed to buy some tools. At the time Audi was charging over £1200.
