I bought my 2004 A4 Avant with just the one working key.

I've now bought a second remote identical to my original one (part no: 8Z0837123D), had a new blade cut and the chip programmed to my car so now I have two keys that work in all the locks and can start the car.

What I can't seem to do is reprogram the central locking side of things. I keep finding videos and how-to's on re-syncing already programmed fobs but nothing on fobs new to the car.

I've tried lots of the steps that I've read but nothing is working. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or the new fob is duff although it was sold as a working one by the seller.

Can someone please point me to an idiot's guide to getting my new fob programmed before I go nuts?

Afraid not. Is it worth buying one of the cheap £10 VagCom things on eBay/Amazon? Will that do the trick?

Yes it will work you will need to download the vcds lite software then buy a 3rd part lead and get the software registered for $99 VCDS-Lite Software | Ross-Tech

or find someone with the software who can do it for you

Thanks for that @arman123. Would I be able to sort my central locking with the basic VCDS Lite software? I've haemorrhaged money on this A4 since I bought it and could do with out having to pay $99.

I don’t really know if it can be done with the basic unregistered version you could try
