When buying the locking tools, make sure they are correct fitment or they won't lock. I had bought a timing lock set from Amazon and I must have spent 1 hour trying to lock the cams and they wouldn't fit. So make sure you buy quality timing lock set.

Not wishing to hijack the topic but my Passat is just over 6 years old and covered 44k miles. Should I be thinking about changing the belt. My local dealership quote £549, should I stick with them (they supplied and serviced the car to date) or perhaps consider going 3rd party.

Having just spoken to my VW dealer they advise 5 years or 140K miles whichever is sooner. The vehicle was serviced by them last year at 5 1/2 years old why did they not progress the CB then. They also tell me it's not on the Long Service regime whereas last year I am 100% certain it was....decisions, decisions, decisions.
