Hi, currently wrestling a CJC engine out of a 2010 Q5 and have hit an issue.
All the bell housing bolts are out and the engine has split from the gearbox by about 5mm but there seems to be something stopping the engine sliding straight out.

Does it have to be disconnected from the DMF as well before removal as I'm struggling to find a picture of this engine with the flywheel attached.
Does the flywheel and clutch stay with the gearbox and the engine comes out without the flywheel / clutch assembly ?

    Thanks

Quick update, finally solved the problem.
The engine comes out but without the clutch and DMF.
There's a removable pannel in the bottom of the gearbox that gives you access to 3 bolts connecting the toothed plate (that engages with the starter motor) on the back of the engine and the front plate of the DMF.
This releases the engine from the DMF.
Removing the DMF / clutch assembley is slightly more awkward as the near side (on RHD versions) front drive shaft passes through the whole unit preventing it from sliding off the first motion shaft from the gearbox.
To remove the drive shaft, undo the six splined bolts holding it in place to split the drive, this then presents another problem.
Because the drive shaft is so long, it's complete removal is prevented by the suspension set up.
We were about to start dismantling this when we realised that by disconnecting the other drive shaft, we could move the gearbox sufficiently to allow the original drive shaft to slide out past the suspension set up.
Once the drive shaft is fully out then the DMF / clutch assembley slides straight out, no problem.
    There, hope that helps someone.
    Happy spannering
    Mick
