    Hi folks,
I had a disaster with a 2009 A5 3.0tdi sport with dpf and a new gearbox fitted among many other things but I’m looking at possible 2015/16 A7...... anything to look out for?

    Thanks in advance

They are very reliable, but of course this depends on the previous owner. Just make sure it has been cared for. Private owner rather than Company car and garaged does help. Servicing every 10k miles, not 20K miles.
I have gone 130k miles and can only think of a front wheel bearing and rear centre brake light that has failed. Also engine mount.

What’s your opinion on the DPF and EGR? Are there any known issues and what is the general opinion on the gearboxes? Are they meaty enough and are they “sealed for life” or do you advise oil and filter change?

Bi turbo tdi comes with a 8 speed ZF auto gearbox which is apparently sealed for life according to Audi. But the makers say it should be serviced every 8 or so year on their website, form what I can remember.

The other tdi’s come with the S Tronic 7 speed (like DSG) which needs servicing every 38k. Hope that helps

The 8 speed gearbox was not unique to bi turbos, there are 245ps 3.0TDI's with Tiptronic 8 speed "service free" gearboxes out there. (pre facelift). I had one for 5.5 years, no engine issues whatsoever. Brilliant cars!

The 245ps engine was only offered in the US with the 8 speed ZF. In the UK, it has always been S-tronic in the A7.

Sorry, not true. It was available late 2013 early 2014 in the UK. I had one!

Is the 8 speed zf any good? Sorry to tag along but I'm looking at a 245 that's got the ideal spec but is Tiptronic rather than the s Tronic

245ps Tiptronic very smooth and zero maintenance (according to Audi!). Had in my 2013 A7 and was great. Tons of torque at the bottom end.
