Hi need some advice I知 changing my 62 plate a6 and will be buying a b9 a4 on around a 16/66 plate and as I only do 5k a year I知 leaning towards the petrol as I won稚 have the worry of a dpf blocking, but I have never had a petrol Audi I致e always had the 2.0 diesel which I think is a great engine but I would like some feedback on the 2.0 TFSI engine is it a reliable engine ? I know I will have less fuel economy but is the engine a good engine ? Also the one I知 looking at has done 68k which is nothing on a diesel but what about this petrol engine ? Any feedback from a TFSI engine welcome thanks

The EA888 engine as it is known has had a fair amount of trouble with oil consumption but does seem to have been fixed 2013 ish onwards. Also the cam chain system has been a bit of a nightmare to say the least but most of these problems have been caused by the modern cat protecting oils we are forced to use. There are a couple of ways to beat this such as 5k mile oil changes and an additive such as Liqui Moly Certatec but a typical 68k mile could be on only its fourth oil fill and some I have seen so abused as to only had two as lease car users tend not to give a toss, even when they are not paying. For me history is everything on that engine, if it is on its seventh fill of oil and would be happy with that but double up and use an additive. Doing an oil change is the moment you can really get an idea of the chains state by how much they rattle.

I知 on my second A4 Avant and both have had the 2.0 Tfsi engine, yes I agree the B8 cars suffered with oil consumption problems. I had mine fixed by Audi under warranty and never had the problem once the pistons were changed, my new B9 A4 Avant is so much better than the B8 and if you can get the 252 ps version you値l have a grin like a Cheshire Cat. I love mine and with the Stronic gearbox and Quattro it is great fun. Hope this helps you, oh and driven sensibly you値l get 40 mpg.
