My B7 Passat TDi 170 BHP 2011 - has all of a sudden kicked out an error when I ran my Vagcom as I noticed last Saturday when I put my AC on that no COLD air was coming out, hence the Vagcom scan.

When I purchased the car 2 years ago I changed the Compressor Clutch and had the AC re-gassed and tested, but since then I've never used the AC, but last Saturday I trip outta town it was much needed......... What a shock to find out that AC was not working. Today I scanned the car and came across the following Error:

    1 Fault Found:
    9481200 - Refrigerant Pressure
    B10AB F0 [009] - Too Low
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00000001
    Fault Priority: 2
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Reset counter: 191
    Mileage: 176261 km
    Date: 2019.07.05
    Time: 15:51:42

What are steps needed to get this problem fixed

Thanks in advance for your help and advice

There is no clutch on these compressors... they are constant drive modulated delivery. If the refrigerant pressure is low it probably has a faulty pressure switch, they leak. Then when you have done that the compressor will fail, we have done two this week.

It is on the AC line across the offside inner wing and is on a Schrader valve, it unscrews quite easily with a tweak from a spanner, 22 or 24mm, I forget at this time of night, so is easy to change, then have the system recharged. If you get cool then fine but if you see good gas pressure and a pressure shift during engaging, no fault codes but no cool air, you know the compressor is FUBAR and needs replacing.

My A/C is on all the time I am driving and has been since I purchased the car 3 years ago. With this current temp I have had to use MAX A/C as well. Hope I am not wearing parts out.

It is well accepted in the trade that AC systems run all the time and not penny pinching fuel last MUCH longer than systems only used infrequently. My Octavia 1 is 18 years old with 180k miles and the system is totally original except for one cooling fan and the last time it was gassed was 14 years ago when I bought it with a blown engine and it is on auto all the time. A Golf 6 yesterday, compressor failure again 3 years after the last Denso unit and in the mean time a new pressure sensor and condenser and she said, “I hardly ever use it except when it is hot”... It is going to be an interesting one with electric cars, HVAC compressors on these are electricity driven and suck huge amounts of power so people are going to be cautious about using it. Almost makes me sad to think that by the time electric cars start falling to bits and costing a fortune to repair, that I will have retired.
