    Sorry for posting in the incorrect section, but the enquiry is about the engine and not the car.
    My son has his heart set on a 2011 seat Leon with the above engine. There seems to be a lot of posts about this engine.
    Are they best avoided? Or are the issues what you would expect with any other engine?

    Generally it is a disaster, an awful engine with HUGE cost potential for repairs such as a high propensity for failed injectors at £2500 a set fitted. Personally I would not have one if it was given to me.

    Would you have any suggestions/recommendations for an alternative for a young guy starting college. Will probably be putting up significant mileage.
    I have vcds that’s why I was looking at the vag brand.

    I don't know how Diesel is going to be penalised in Eire, you need to do some research. Certainly I would not have one of the VAG common rail diesels, they are unreliable and the repair costs can be staggering.
