Has anyone ever seen an erratic specified boost figure before? I have a 2008 BMN engine 2.0tdi giving a P0299 overboost fault.

Previous similar faults have required a new turbo but this turbo is only 40,000 miles old (I understand it could still be shot) but driving it doesnt give the same immediate power loss/noise as previous P0299 faults. This car splutters and goes again and splutters at random times and has no strange noises.

Ive only had a quick look but "boost pressure actual" seems to be fine whereas "boost pressure specified" doesnt. For example the specified reading will go from 1000 to 2500 with just a little rev to 2000rpm in neutral and the actual boost will then be reading approx 1200 which makes more sense.

I will get more time tomorrow to investigate further but just on the off chance someone has seen this before and can maybe point to a map/n75 failure or something. Many thanks for you time and help.

If you have access to VCDS you can produce a very simple graph in measuring blocks 011 where the boost delivery can be easily interpreted.

Job done, please find two links below for the graphs from block 11.

I also noticed a few other things.

    1) The car was recalled for new injectors and the injector values dont read at all on Vcds
    2) The DPF particle filter went from 9% to 48% in 7 days, is that normal? It doesnt do many miles maybe 150-200 a week.

You have some massive boost spikes there, indicative of a clogged vane assembly so remove the turbo and send it for a rebuild and also the DPF and send it to DPF Clean Team in Hinckley. When it comes back and all is rebuilt, fit a new pressure sensor, calibrate, reduce the DPF ash mass figure by 50% and carry out a forced regeneration.

Bang on as always. Turbo removed, veins all clogged up so getting it fixed at the minute. Whats the procedure for adapting the ash figures do you know off hand? Thanks

If you have the latest VCDS there are quite good help tables and pop ups. Sometimes I struggle to rest the Ash Mass to anything other than 0 and end up using ODIS, which is annoying as it is slow and costs 10 Euro to do it.

Car drives perfect now, all faults gone. DPF issue to be monitored over the next few weeks, thanks again for your help!
