What components are needed as iunderstand the water pump is NOT a service item and is only replaced when itfails.

Cani go with a Dayco/Conti/Bosch Kit or shall I stick to genuine parts only?

Also, the main tstat may need changing and it has been suggested that I get this doneat the same time as the tstat is located behind the water pump - is this correctas i believe the tstat is accessed from the front and not the OSF ?

    Thanksin advance.

ALWAYS do the water pump, you would be very annoyed if in two years time it failed with lots of life left in the belt. We stick to genuine kits and pump, I am just doing a TTS and that is getting genuine. There is nothing wrong with aftermarket but the VAG dealer backed two year parts and labour warranty is nice.
