Just had to clear the drain holes in my A6 C5. While doing it, I found a sensor to the nearside of the battery. It looks as if it should be clipped on somewhere, but I couldn't see an obvious point to connect to. I also wonder if my pollen filter should have a lid, other than the long cover that goes all the way across.

I enclose three pictures to improve clarity. The all across cover, the pollen filter, without lid, and the sensor in question.

    Thanks for your help.

No cover for pollen filter- plenum chamber cover is all there is. The sensor in question is the Air Quality Sensor and (from memory) clips onto a bracket in front of pollen filter, and under the plenum chamber cover. The sensor has probably (like mine) broken off the retaining clip and can be reattached with double sided tape. Apparently, if the Air Quality sensor fails, the climate control system will only recirculate the cabin air - thinks outside air is bad. So a good idea to make sure it works - can only tell by running diagnostic which will throw up a fault code if there is a problem.
Re plenum chamber, next time you clean out, also remove battery and tape down a length of mosquito netting (or net curtain) to ensure the two plug holes remain clear. Have done mine only once and no issues after 222k miles!

Hi, Thanks for taking the trouble to respond.

I cleared the drains by stuffing a hosepipe down. The net sounds like a good plan. I did find a piece of plastic in the engine bay, and it met the sensor, and the pollen filter, so after your comment I have stuck the sensor with a tie wrap on to the filter.

Pine needles were the cause of the blockage, largely.
