Hello there new to site and looking for help/ information.first of all this is my friends car the problem is the both front wheels are buried into the arches and n/s rear is a lot lower than o/s rear this happen while driving off-road there was a loud thumb or bang probably hit something underneath? Said I would look at it was thinking air line damage but surely shouldn't put the fronts into the arches and would just drop to the lowest ride height?.I know nothing about this type of suspension but very capable mechanically.

The first thing to do is Google audio SSP 292 or 243 this will give you a good overview on the system.

You will need VCDS or similar to be able to work on it, if the compressor is locked out you have to clear the code before it will run again.

Ok thanks for the information (sorry its a 2004 model but the same) looking at it on Saturday can't even turn the key at mo as front wheels are jammed into the outside edge of arches and holding the steering lock on hard ( a bit of muscle should sort that) the suspension must have dropped after turning off as there is no way it could have been driven. thanks dan have a better idea of how this operates now as for vcds is there any plug in hand held scanners that are up to the job if not what version of vcds do I need?.car has been used for years as a farmyard run around and paying the price did tell her if you need to go in the rough stuff get a land/range rover.

If it's a 2004 model, are you sure it's a C6 and not a C5? Fairly different air suspension setups between the two.
Whilst the air struts on the C6 are not without fault, the ones on the C5 are notorious. If it's a C5 and it's still on it's original air bag's then your friend was already on borrowed time.

Yes, that will be a 4B (C5 if you must use that confusing nomenclature) not a 4F, look at the VIN and it will be wauzzz4Bx4N??????, a type 4BH . The one my business partner owns (2005) I once drove from the previous owners home back to the workshop with the front suspension completely deflated, it can be done with care.

It's an A6 at least that what the mot history says and made interesting reading plagued by front suspension failures and rear shocks show little effect.reading through the information each air bag unit keeps 3.5 bar of min pressure via a valve so 3 units have burst?.will know more over the weekend will let you know the result.

Yes we now it is an A6 but which one, 4B or 4F? Look at the VIN as I described above.
