    hi

i've just fitted a pumpkin android 8 head unit in my wifes mk6 2.0 golf tdi gt. it's an excellent head unit but the dab reception is a bit sketchy. i'm currently using one of the built in areals - the car didn't have a factory dab head unit before fitting the android one so i'm assuming it doesn't have a built in dab areal? - but would really like to improve the dab reception whilst using the built in areals already in the car. has anyone here found a really good solution for boosting the reception for dab using the already fitted areals which i believe are in the rear window?

i know you can get windscreen ones, the reception i've got currently is about the same as using one of those, so i know it can be improved but don't want to fit an external areal on the car if at all possible.

    any advice appreciated.

    Hi,

I've used these folks. Great service.

In Car DAB Digital Radios > Cheap DAB for cars > dabonwheelsHome - DAB on Wheels

In the end I didn't keep the system as the DAB reception was patchy but the help & support from the company was superb.

    Good Luck

    Andy.

I don’t think you can boost the existing signals to receive the DAB signal. I think VW already uses an amplifier on the aerials so you’ll need a separate DAB aerial or see if it’s possible to exchange the existing ones.

I used an Android unit in my previous 57 plate Touran and very successfully used a stick on L shaped DAB aerial which gave as much reception as the roof mounted OEM one. I didn’t want it in the front windscreen and there wasn’t quite enough cable to reach the hatch window so I put it in the rear side window top corner. The reception will ultimately come down to how strong the signal is in your area.

she gets dab currently but its not the best, i'm installing an external dab aerial on my van tomorrow so that should give me a better idea of what the dab signal strength is in my area.

well i installed virtually the same dab setup in my old vivaro van today but with an amplified external aerial - this one Eightwood DAB+ DAB Car Aerial DAB Antenna Splitter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics - and the reception is amazing on both fm and dab so now i have a benchmark i can work towards and i now know it's not the local signal strength but the aerial reception in the golf that's the issue. if it was an old car i would fit one of these but don't fancy drilling holes in the golf. i've seen elsewhere that you can get a dab module for the boot which may be an option VW Golf Mk6 Mk7 Tiguan & Passat CC Retrofit DAB Aerial OEM Style Calearo 7590007 | eBay which i'm guessing you just swap out for the existing.

but i think i'll go away and have a think befopre deciding what to do.
