Can anyone help with a 09 Golf 1.9 TDi with SAFE displayed on the dash?

There is only 1 key as the 2nd is lost. The key available is not the original key, the casing is totally different (think its Audi but not sure) The car starts and drives fine. I am not sure but I believe the transponder may not have been switched when the previous owner replaced the key fob?

    VCDS give this error......

Have you worked out which key is doing this?

There only is one key, sadly the second one is lost.

I’ve seen this before but the last time there was a second key which didn’t have the safe issue. In this case the keyfob that caused the safe problem also had the keyfob changed.

I think you may need to get a new key from VW to match the VIN and then have someone with ODIS program it in. The remote can be done with VCDS but not the immobilser chip.

The lower half of the key with the transponder is £92.71, if you need the upper half, a three button remote is £87.22 and I think they would charge an hours labour to program them both in so whatever their rate is for doing that job, we charge £66.

The local dealership is charging £230 all in for key and coding so pretty much the same as your breakdown crasher. The only thing that worries me if that if after paying that whats the chances of it not resolving the issue.

There are no other options other than spending daft amounts of time and money trying to analyse the problem to probably only come to the same conclusion. With modern cars this is a dilemma I have to deal with daily, except this week when I am off finishing decorating the bathroom.

You think? Just wait to Mrs Crasher asks for the waterfall bath taps with led lights - red for warm water and blue for cold water!
