I have recorded the EGR % value (presumably some measure of the opening of the EGR valve)
along with EGR Error (preumably the difference between where the valve SHOULD be and where
it was (??) for a nice motorway drive Southampton to Southend (vehicle running at normal temp)

    2011 2.0TDI Passat/ 3C/ CFFB with 100k on the clock

The data was captured using TORQUE running on a mobile capturing via bluetooth the data from a XTRONS ODB adaptor

There is a LOT of information BUT knowing that I am experiencing juddering around 1750-2000 rpm I started looking at the data

Now the full size plots are here: EGR Plots3 | John C Bullas BSc MSc PhD MCIHT MIAT | Flickr

    These are reduced in size

    EGR Plots1 640.jpg
    EGR vs. RPM
    EGR Plots2 640.jpg
    Engine Load versus EGR error

    EGR Plots3 640.jpg
Engine RPM versus EGR Error (getting closer)

    EGR Plots4 640.jpg
Now this is showing where the WORST errors are happening

I would like to take learned counsel on this data storm!

What Can I learn, what does it tell me

    19,730 data points

    Regards

    Dr B

Typical EGR valve failure, new number 03L 131 512 DQ at 359.35 plus gaskets and around five hours in the air to fit.

It is worst at low levels of engine load and virtually unnoticeable during hard acceleration

If the light is coming on with an EGR range/performance code it will need replacing.

When you said “EGR error” I assumed you had a fault code.

I have these 2 faults but I don't have a means to decode them

    2 Faults Found:

    4871 -
    - 07 [032]
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
    4891 -
    - 1B [032]
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

Thus I am none the wiser

The judder is coincident with the worst EGR error log in TORQUE

    Thanks

    John

I had this on a mid 90's petrol turbo , couldn't understand why the light throttle, low rpm , caused a baby kangaroo .

Older cars , simpler fix , a bolt in a vac line !

All these modern cars are tosh , planned obsolescence parts expensive and buried deep when they don't have to be so labour is up . Replacing the part now never guarantees it will last the life of the car .

I'm still having fun with an drive by wire throttle body fault code despite a new throttle body on a newer German car .

    Is yours a B7 Dr B ?
