What's the deal with Audi and their "critical notifications" when it comes to tyre tread depth?

Fronts are 3.5mm and rears are 4mm, but I was advised to change the fronts immediately. Looking at their measurements they did measure 2.9mm on the inside edge, but 3.5mm in the middle. So I guess they take the lowest reading? Regardless I still think I have a couple thousand left in them - I've done 20K on this set and my local tyre shop reckoned that was brilliant for such a big car.

What sort of mileage is everyone else getting? Mine are the 22" Ventus S1 Evos, 285/35 profile.

    Cheers,

    Fronty

I got to 14,000 before replacing the front two. Rears are still original at 17,000.

European limit is 3mm so Audi will always recommend change near that limit. As you know the UK limit is 1.6mm across 3quarters of the centre of the tyre

I have 45k (Km) 28k miles on original 20" continentals on Q7 e-tron. But on refection, probably 8k km was on winter wheels. so 37k on the summer tyres, shold easily get over 42k Km, so 26k miles expected. It's all laid back, city & motorway driving, observing the speed limits :-)

I have just had to replace my fronts at 12k miles - the 22" Hankooks
close to the wear indicators but both were bald on the outer rim. rears are fine.

Finally changed my tyres yesterday, got another set of 285/35R22 Hankooks, all-in cost was just under £700, got 27,000 miles out of the old set, not bad for such a huge car!
