I am working on a 2011 Golf to raise some money for charity and it has a peculiar problem. When in Park, the car can roll in both directions. There are no fault codes. I am not sure where to start so any help will be useful. Its a CAVD engine with a MLD gearbox and only 37,000 miles.

    Thanks

I assume that I need remove the gearbox cover from the engine compartment at the top of the gearbox. I think the cover is itself the parking lock, but not sure what I should be looking at.
I will start the job tomorrow morning.

I am assuming the above part has broken or is bent. If broken I wonder where the broken part will be. In the gearbox??

I finally got a new Parking lock (was on back order) for the Golf and on removing the old one, the old and new parts look identical with nothing amiss with the old part, so I am struggling to establish whether the existing part is faulty. Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks C. Solution found. I did not try the new part despite having taken it out of its seal bag to compare it with the old one. I hate doing things without understanding what I am trying to find out what is wrong. So I istalled the old one again and started moving the gearshift lever on the gearbox without the cable being connected. The gearbox locked! I then noticed that the cable has an adjuster and the sliding part of the adjuster was loose. I then re-attached the cable in the lock position and tightened the nut. All was well.

Now the interesting part. The nut was tight to turn, and I had to turn it a few times to tighten the slider on to the cable. So how did the nut get loose. I was told that this fault happened recently.
I wonder if TPS will take the part back?

I doubt it, special order and you opened the bag. I can sometimes get them to bend but I do spend a huge amount with them.

Thanks Crasher. If you need the part, its yours. Let me know and I will post it to you. Alternatively I will drop it off when I am next in your area. SOAM321219F. it supercedes the part with E on the end of it.
