Battery light illuminated erratically for several miles

Hi all, my wife was driving the A4 1.8T Quattro BEX code when the battery light illuminated, it went out after a few seconds, but did this several times in a 10 mile journey.

I have driven the car for 70 odd miles and it's not come back on, I replaced the battery last year and it had a new alternator clutch fitted about 60k miles ago.

i have not checked anything yet, but as we are driving down through France this summer I don't really fancy the battery light coming on then!

Any ideas as as to where to look first?????

Check the small single wire is tight and secure.

Also check the single wire hasn't rubbed through the insulation and earthing somewhere.

Alternator belt tension also

Right, had a quick look today and something sounds a little rough, not bad, but not quite as quiet as it should be, as I also have an A4 cab, I used a stethoscope (screwdriver to the ear) and both the alternator and the tensioner arm sound rougher on the Quattro than the cab. For ease I am going to swap over the tensioner first, obviously checking the pulley bearing first, then if that does not change anything I will swap alternators which have identical part numbers, a process of ilimination, perhaps the tensioner pulley was starting to seize up causing the light to come on.........let's see how the swapping goes......

All sorted now, replaced the alternator and all ok now.
