    Good Morning!

As the EGR gas flow is a function of the ECU activity, can you force
the system to keep the EGR valve closed, this with a view to diagnosing
a defect in the EGR control system? I am loathed to start blanking off
pipes to do this as I suspect the lumpyness an 1500-2000 is the valve (95k miles).

If you can do this, what am I switching out/over/off/on (newbie but VCDS full licence)

    Cheers

    Dr B

There are a number of EGR testing functions in VCDS but these can say one is OK when it isn’t.

    Hi Everyone!

I ran the VCDS EGR test however I am not sure I recorded the right data during the test, do we have any clues as to what to measure and how a working EGR system would shape up? The test runs ok and prompts for brakes and foot on the accellerator, plug lamp flashes and rpm is governed. The key elements would be the two readings to compare, here I have used-

    EGR specified value ( %)
EGR solenoid valve: actual value ( %)

However this was not based on any real reasoning- this is what came out (note the scale on the right)

    egr test EXCEL.jpg

    For the record I recorded

    EGR solenoid valve: actual value
    EGR specified value
EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve: activation
    Engine speed
    Engine torque
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler pump: specified value

    The CSV datafile is here:
    egr LOG-01-IDE00405_&5.CSV - Google Drive

It has the timestamps for each reading of each variable, I resorted the data in Excel thus:
    egr LOG-01-IDE00021_&5.xlsx - Google Drive

May repeat with TURBO to get more granularity

NEXT? Looking to use VCDS to lock out the EGR valve to see if the judder is gone.... youtube helped here:
VW A4: ALH TDi EGR Adaptation (to minimum operation value) - YouTube

However locking it out long term is NOT an option as the EGR is used in the DPF regeneration
cycle - so it won't so the DPF will block up [what I didn't think to do was to see if the DPF state
could be monitored to MANUALLY regenerate it? Not sure that the warning light for the DPF
would signal TOO LATE to regenerate..... another issue this ]

    Any thoughts most appreciated
