You need to know the number off the injectors to know if it applies, can you see the sticker in the service book and on the boot floor?. TPI's are only FOC when the car is under warranty, "Campaigns" are like recalls but VAG are a bit allergic to the R word... and Campaigns expire as has 23H9. I would try a harness first but don't hold your breath and from what I can see, I would be confident saying the turbo needs a rebuild.

I has already checked the service book and boot floor where the spare wheel goes - no stickers.
Is it difficult to remove and subsequently re-fit the cam cover to check the injector part numbers? Are specialist tools required?

Is it is as simple as unscrew some bolts, lift the cover, check the parts, but the cover back on and bolt down? Or are there seals etc that you have to be careful of?

The seal should be fine, very tough rubber but £26 genuine if you need one.

VW 23h9v2.pdfHi Crasher - me again!

So, after a weeks long arguing with VW, it turns out the car has had the 23h9 recall done in March 2012 (paperwork attached). With this in mind, is my problem still likely need 4 injectors and turbo rebuild given that the injectors were replaced with supposedly better ones? Thanks.

I have had to replace injectors fitted in the recall. The turbo rebuild I can only go on by fault code, not road test which is what I would do for a customer and do the harness first.

OK, fair enough. How much is the harness roughly? And is it easy enough to fit? Just an unclip old one, and then clip new one on kinda thing or is it more involved?

Little bit more involved but not difficult. The problem normally is that you will not have the loom collar removal tool T10310 or the injector connector release tool T10310 but it can be done easily without. Make sure you take note of the orientation of each of the loom collar connector pieces as it will be easier to refit correctly. The loom collar is in 3 pieces - outer connector, remove the red plastic locking pin carefully, don't break or drop it, and unscrew outer collar which will release the external loom connector from the pins of the loom connector in the head, be careful not to knock and bend the exposed pins - next is the inner collar or 'adapter ring' that holds the loom connector in the head for which the T10310 socket is used to unscrew it anticlockwise by around a quarter turn. For this you can use a 2 foot long piece of rope with a diameter of around 8 to 10mm. Make a coil in the rope slipping the coil over the inner collar then take up the slack and whilst taught, gradually pull the top rope tighter maintaining slightly less tension on the lower end. This acts like a rope spanner and the coil will grip hard and rotate the collar. Once this is removed you are left with the injector loom connector itself held in by a U shaped thin clip on the inner side of the head. Remove this then carefully unclip all the injector and glow plug connectors, finally unbolting the loom rail guide and pushing the loom collar inwards through the hole in the head. A magnetic dish is useful to stick the bolts and U clip into so that you don't lose or drop any of them. Fitting the new loom is the reverse of removing the old one. Be careful and reasonably gentle with the new loom and all should go smoothly.

The above is a guide to the price for a 2.0 PD loom (add vat and delivery) but you may find them slightly cheaper elsewhere.

Ok, sounds do-able. To be honest though, my car's probably only worth about £300. So to spend that money on the harness and that time doing it and then it still not work (potentially) is probably not worth it. Looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and scrap the old girl :-( Know anyone that pays good money for spares/repairs?? haha.

Crasher, Mitch - I thank you both sincerely. You're knowledge and help has been invaluable & much appreciated.
