In my youth (well, early 20s) my favourite car was an Audi Coupe (sadly not quattro) which I used to blast up and down the A68. Fun times. Very few speed cameras then.

I'm now closing in on my first Audi since then.

We travel up the A9 to Aviemore every couple of weeks, all year round, and I'd like a 4WD estate before next winter comes. I've had a look at a Subaru Outback but I don't fancy their diesels (they've discontinued them, which is a bit of a red flag). For the 2.5i petrol, the new model is quite handsome (2015+) but they come in at about £18k and are hard to find. The old model can be had at 2010, 100k, £5kish - but it's awful ugly. So I've turned towards Audi quattro. The quattro I never had the first time.

I've decided I'm an A6-size kind of guy, I just felt a little cramped sitting in an A4 this weekend. (I've yet to drive either A4 or A6). I have narrowed my search to A6 Avant Quattro, 2008-2013. I'd prefer 17in wheels (definitely no bigger than 18in) so that's SE I believe?

So, say I have about £9k-£10k to spend, would you recommend
    1. 2011 old model 2.7tdi, 76k, £9k
    2. 2013 new model, 3.0tdi, 135k, £9.75k

The newer can will be cheaper to run (fuel, tax, parking) by about £350/yr, I reckon. So the cost difference disappears pretty quickly. And the newer model has more power. Is it a nicer car to drive? Is it a nicer car to be in? What are the big differences between the two models? What big maintenance bills will I have ahead of me on both cars?

    Thanks for helping!

    Cheers
    Colin
