    Hi,

I have a 2003 C5 Allroad 2.5tdi, the immobilizer keeps cutting in (took a while to figure out it was that, we lose the feed to the lift pump when it won’t start). Code reader doesn't pull up anything relevant and removing the battery feed and reconnecting it clears the issue and it restarts. Always had central locking issues too so would this point to wet/faulty convenience pack ECU issues? Blocked water drains at the base of the screen I've read somewhere?

    Any other ideas/suggestions or advice?

    Thanks in advance

    Bill

The factory fitted immobiliser doesn’t cut the in tank fuel pump feed as it is not a lift pump, all it does is keep the swirl pot in the right hand side full of fuel using what they call a suction jet pump to draw the fuel from the left and the pump itself to draw from the right, it's quite clever. The engine driven VP44 draws the fuel from the swirl pot. On my business partners 2005 All Road a few weeks ago, he started to get running issues when the fuel was low (which is most of the time), a quick check showed the in tank pump relay to be at fault and since a new one has been fitted, the problem has gone, apart from he still drives around on fumes. For a while it has not been starting well and the relay problem occurred just after water poured into the cabin and it can also get into the ECU box and drip down and the relay was corroded when I opened it. When (IF) I get some time I am going to look at the ECU and connections in there to see if there is any more corrosion. Of course none of this helps you, does the engine actually cut out when running or is it just a no start problem?

Arh, ok so we have another issue then, hummm.

The car drives very well, lots of fuel etc, never cuts out. 3 times I have come to it in the morning (first time it started, I selected D and pulled away for it to "stall" after about 4 feet, it wouldn't restart) and it just won’t fire, it's always fired very quickly. We did all sorts to it the first time (last October) and gave up. I left it parked at home and 2 or so months later put a jump pack on it and it fired straight away. I used it again for about 3-4 weeks with no problems at all and it did the same on morning, turns over, wont fire just like its fuel starvation. let the battery run to flat and start it with a boost pack, it fired straight up. Code reader pulls up some codes to do with hydraulic engine mounts, but nothing fuel related. We replaced the pump in the tank as a precaution, but it still wouldn't start until the battery feed was removed as above.

I've left it off the road for the last month and it will just start straight off the key no problem every time.

If your code reader has measuring blocks viewing, disable the injection pump (unplug it) and crank the engine on a really well charged battery and battery pack to add some capacity as you may need to crank for quite a few seconds until the code reader catches up. View the RPM displayed and it must be 280rpm or higher
