    Hi,

The temp gauge is playing up and the car is taking a long time to warm up to 90. When the hot air is on the needle gradually falls.

Have researched the issue and discovered for DSG cars that before changing the main thermostat to check the in line thermostat under the air filter box near the oil cooler. Part no. 1K0121113A. This is apparently an easy and cheap fix and many have succeeded with this.

Had a look yesterday with a light under the air filter box but that part was no where to be seen. VW have today confirmed this part is not listed for this vehicle.

My understanding was that this part was installed in ALL DSG vehicles???

Also how many other thermostats are there if the one mentioned above is not installed?

I can also can not find a guide on how to drain the coolant?

Which type of coolant do i need?

    Any suggestions?

No, 1K0 121 113 A is only used on the 2 litre petrol automatic. The thermostat on the CAYC engine is called the 4/2 way valve (03L 121 111 S) and it is a lot of work, the official time is a joke at just over an hour, it takes at least double that even with experience as it is buried under the alternator. You could have a failed additional electric water pump, these are a common failure and normally show up under a code read.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

I am sure that inline thermostat was fitted to some diesel engines.

Re the main thermostat I have seen the work involved on these and it seems difficult.

is there only one thermostat on these?

I can also can not find a guide on how to drain the coolant?

Which type of coolant do i need?

I have recently had the codes read by National tyres and nothing was returned.

I am due to have the timing belt changed next week.
