    Evening all,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this...

The car is an A7 - 242ps (180kw) 7 speed quattro. The DPF light came on towards the end (thankfully) of an 800 odd mile round trip. The light was on for around a minute, then went out, the heater plug light came on and the car went into limp mode. Fortunately, I was only around 10 miles from home, so I decided to carry on.

I've had the car scanned with VCDS and it's coming up with the following..

    4 Faults Found:
    5188 - Diesel Particle Filter
    P2463 00 [237] - Excessive Soot Accumulation

18660 - Start interruption due to insufficient engine speed

    Voltage terminal 30: 14.120 V
    Unlearning counter according OBD: 40
    Ambient temperature: 13.3 °C
Particle filter: offset for differential press.: 0 hPa
Particle filter: soot mass measured: 37.31 g
Particle filter: soot mass calculated: 28.19 g
Particle filter: kilometers since last regeneration: 778877 m
Particle filter field regeneration: cancel conditions-Bits 0-7: 0
Particle filter field regeneration: cancel conditions-Bits 0-7: 0

    Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0

Looking at the soot values, I wouldn't have thought that they were that high (assuming they are correct)? I'm inclined to think that a sensor has gone down, possibly the pressure sensor.

    Any advice gratefully received..

What version of VCDS was used, it seems to be missing some data like the time stamp? They all (apart from the engine speed) seem to have occurred at the same time and yes I would fit a gem (genuine only) pressure sensor and calibrate, then see if a forced regeneration when driving can be initiated.

    Thanks for the reply Crasher.

DPF & particulate trap were at the same time. Lambda 5:02 later.

Is there somewhere I can find min/max limits for the pressure sensor?

It should be in the VCDS labels but they are rather incomplete. When I get an issue like this I change over to using ODIS for the Guided Fault Finding function direct back to VAG live ont interweb but very few non main dealers have this facility.... it dug me out of what would have been a hole today just coding in a new key chip to the dash on a Golf 5, what was previously a total sketch took a few minutes.

I guess that level of tech is quite a financial commitment, so it's unsurprising that few have it.

It's guite galling really. I've been driving Audi lease cars for over 10 years, covering around 350,000 miles and I've only ever had one car let me down, which was a 2007 A3, with a duff injector.

I buy my own and get problems... All things considered, I'm still mega impressed with the A7.

Just read your footer on your profile. Not a fan of diesels then..?

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.

Well, the A7 looks like a boat from behind and moves the earth for me, so that's two out of three

Normally, I'd say that four strokes is two too many anyway, but I'll leave that for today..

I have equal contempt for engines that don't have four stokes, the noise and smell drives me mad, I rent one of my units across the car park to a bike mechanic and when he is bedding in new rings I have evil thoughts of murder...

It's okay, friend Crasher has no soul. How can anyone not be seduced by the sound of a Motocross bike tapped out!
