Go ahead, it's illegal, it's part of the reason diesel is getting such a bad press, you're contributing to a pollution problem that's killing thousands, technically your insurance will be invalid but hey, go ahead, please do.

Get it to a specialist to look at and and this may interest you Glasgow Low Emission Zones | Transport Scotland not just because it is coming all over the UK but why and that is people removing the DPF.

Manufactures and aftermarket need to take responsibility and to make egr and dpf much, much cheaper to replace .

Why? They are businesses not charities. The governments that promoted Diesel use and insisted on DPF's should take responsibility for forcing in an immature technology.

Deleted - Misread the original post so what I had written was irrelevant.

EGR deletes are popular on many makes of car mainly due to the cost of proper repair, the high cost of repair is the sort of thing that will bring newer model cars to the scrapyard before their time.
I do like how every man and their dog is jumping on the anti diesel bandwagon, yet a year maybe two years ago if you mentioned EGR delete not one person would bat an eyelid.

I dont know how they can legislate against egr deletes as you simply cant tell they have been done, dpf delete is quite easy as they already follow trucks and measure the air quality to see if they have had an Adblue emulator fitted.

Reading something interesting the other day about Euro6 diesels saying the nox particles are now so small they are entering the food chain.

In the case of the poet WH Auden, he wrote “A Curse” in 1972... I have railed against the proliferation of diesels since the mid 90’s when I realised how damaging they are to health, I put my own Asthma diagnosis directly down to not long after I started to work on a lot of Diesels in the early 90’s. I have never personally owned a Diesel and never will nor will I buy an electric or hybrid car, the nightmare they WILL cause is about 20 years away so my Asthma will probably have killed me by then...

I ask a lot of Diesel drivers to give me an honest answer, choosing between two simple questions, either or but not both “did you buy diesel to save the planet or save money?

I started driving diesels in the early nineties, usually knackered old ford escort vans, purely because of the mpg i could get in comparison to petrol vehicles of the day 55 rather than 35ish. There was nothing about pollution and diesel was seen as a good thing. Around 2006 moved over to diesel car again for similar reasons, bought my 2015 fl rather assuming that after the dieselgate scandal etc the cars under euro6 would be sorted. That they are likely to be a liability as the emissions eqpt is a bit of a rushed “getaround” is going to make the cars an expensive headache for a lot of people.
Those that use their cars as daily runarounds are pretty much all getting issues after about 3 years and 30-40k , even if initially its lights on the dash and thats the start of their modern diesel education. In hindsight i’d probably have gone for a tfsi, but too late now.

However we hear plenty from those that have problems with their cars, but used more in the manner they were designed for, what sort of mileages are dpf’s achieving? From what i can find , audi suggests the ash load is measured at around 125k miles and monitored according to results thereafter or replaced if its full. Are those doing a majority of their miles on long runs finding this is correct?

My 1.9tdi C5 did 230k , before the bill to get it through its mot (and likely hood of other stuff being an the wane) meant it was time to go. But aside from normal servicing ( belt changes and water pumps included) it cost next to nothing to run. Things seem to have taken a very backward direction with newer models.

You're not going to save the planet by buying a car of any sort.
If petrol car is overall 0.0000001% better for plant whats being saved ?
Cars are health issue only in densely populated ares, but people are sick everywhere.
Coca Cola with 11g sugar in 100 ml will damage your health more than any diesel car in your bedroom.
Why isn't it banned ? Money talks...
