Alright all! Sold my A3 and bought a 58 plate Golf 1.9TDi DSG Match on the 12th May. It had 78k with FSH and has passed every single MOT without advisories except 2012 where it failed on a front tyre.

It had HIDs but with expensive HYLUX ballasts. I've removed them and replaced with Philips RacingVision as I don't do HID's (so they'll be up for sale soon).

It drove all well when i test drove it, no odd noises except the air conditioning not working, but the dealer paid substantially to have it fixed and so i also have ice cold air conditioning lol.

I've done almost 1000 miles so far and averaged 51mpg on mixed driving, some days A406 some days M25, so i'm very happy with the fuel economy and the DPF has been regenning itself too.

However now a colleague has spat a fly in my ointment and told me I have a BXE engine so after doing some online reading I'm quite worried! The motor is off to Audi VW Specialists in Harrow on Thursday to have:

- The DSG gearbox serviced (it's smooth but i'm just quite fussy)
- Cruise control fixed
- Passenger side indicator repeater fixed as it's intermittent

...So, am I now better off also paying a few hundred for new Conrod bearings as a matter of course? I would rather pay now to have a potential issue fixed rather than let it happen at 3-4am when i'm driving home from work!

I am quite on point with servicing, I have decided stick to 8k intervals rather than 10k lessening the chance of the issue ever occuring with me. I've called the garage and just awaiting a price but tbh I will just go ahead and do it because I just cannot drive a car that is a ticking time bomb. It's just not me. I need reliability as my job role means I cannot afford these kind of issues. It's really, really put a dampener on what was the happy purchase of the newest car I've ever bought. :/

Cheers...

Harry.
