My boot lever release mechanism had failed a few weeks ago, and after some diagnosis I can see the tailgate / boot lever handle has failed. There is a microswitch to activate the boot actuator, and the lever to engage the microswitch appears broken as it no longer moves as it should.

It seems that to overhaul this part would require drilling the pop-rivets in order to get to the internal lever that seems to have failed.

So looking on EBAY these are pretty cheap at approx £20... but most appear to be a different revision. The part on my golf is 1K0827469F. Many of those available look identical from the pictures but are of revision D or E.

Does anyone know whether the earlier revision of handle will work ? Are there any functional / mounting differences between these, or is it just a slightly earlier design that was later revised ?

    Many thanks

    1K0 827 469 D changed to 1K0 827 469 E which changed to 3C5 827 469 C then D. 1K0 827 469 F went to 3C5 827 469 C and the current number is 3C5 827 469 D, yes I am also confused....

Thanks for the info. Actually I took a punt and bought a reasonable looking one from an EBAY breaker. This was part no 3C5 827 469 B according to the stamp indicator on the bottom... and was originally off a 2006 Passat.

This fitted fine and has fixed my faulty boot issue.

    Thanks

Makes sense, the Passat estate is a type 3C5. B went to C, then D
