Was just about to put back the turbo and manifolds etc when I noticed in Elsawin you have to replace the bolts to the cat, heat shield to manifold and so on. Is this absolutely necessary to replace all these bolt?

    Thanks.

Yes. If they are stretch bolts and were installed correctly they have been stretched to their elastic limit, so the installation instructions are no longer valid, and there is now no way of knowing how much torque they need.

OK, thanks, seems odd you need new ones on the manifold heat shield, cat to turbo I can understand.

Actually I made a mistake, it's not the bolts but the nuts that apparently need changing, does the same apply to them as well?

No idea. Maybe because they corrode, or weaken due to the temperature. Perhaps someone here knows another reason.

They should be cheap enough anyway. Personally I'd use standard off-the-shelf nuts.

Yes, 100% change them, if you don't they will keep coming lose. The nut is pinched at the top so they kind of look oval when new, after many years and when removed that pinch is gone so the nuts will keep coming lose.

When I first did a search they were £8 plus per bolt that I was seeing, and if you need all the manifold bolts, manifold heat shield, and turbo bolts your talking 15 bolts and more.

But once I knew they were M8 self tapping nuts I found them for a lot cheaper than that.
