No the basic architecture is still EA189 and it is a good reliable strong unit IF it is not abused, gets 9K oil changes and a new set of rod bearings at 100k, then they will do another 100k. I have seen a few snapped cranks but this was always on cars with badly failed DMF’s or SMF conversions, cast iron cranks don’t take abuse like forged steel types.

Thanks for your help crasher ���� last thing I want to do isn’t buy a lemon im really taken by the Leon if honest was just worried if they still suffered with the egr issues that have plagued so many before. I do 70 miles a day all A roads at a constant 70mph so I’m hoping it shouldn’t give me any problems��

It was trawling through my pictures last night and remembered we have done a few of these on the Golf 7 for a blocked DPF but not an EGR cooler....yet. The system is a right monster to get out

That's the DPF yeah, didn't DPF's used to be just a single big fat pipe, what's the craic with the 2nd pipe section like in your pic Crasher?

That system is nowt compared to the ones we are now fighting on the A4/A6/Q7 where the reductant systems go awol and block the entire exhaust with synthetic urine crystals that set as hard as cement and are the Devil to remove. An A6 Ultra EU6 can cost £5-6K to deal with even using as much aftermarket systems as possible… it is simply stupid legislation gone way way to far and only set to get far far worse with EU7.
