Are these aftermarket parking switches actually any good? Electronic Handbrake Brake Button Parking Switch for Volkswagen VW Passat B6 NE8 | eBay

Helping my sister with her Passat estate and EPB problems. I've just replaced a problematic old OEM switch, which has the part number 3C0 927 225B with a cheap aftermarket one from above.

Certainly most/all of the problems have been alleviated but every so often, albeit rarely, it comes up with parking brake fault. If you press it again immediately, it works fine, so I am confident the EPB itself is okay and there are no wiring faults. Is this common for the cheap aftermarket switches? I have been monitoring on VCDS and the only error is the standard EPB Switch failure intermittent? No wiring faults as such.

    Thanks for any help.

Useful advice. I mean, I figured other people might have purchased these and seen similar QC issues, but I suppose your advice is as good as any.

Have you checked the parking brake motors on the rear calipers for cracks.

    That is the common problem.

I haven't to be fair. I've not even looked at the calipers or motors because I'm yet to see a fault code for the motors/calipers themselves.

Some aftermarket are good quality but it is a lottery. Often a C revision (desirable) is quoted but a B version sent. Even then is a C reproduction really a C and cures earlier issues?

You get what you pay for - go for one with 2 year guarantee and shed loads of positive reviews if aftermarket. VW genuine has that anyway but 2 to 3 times the price. Weigh up risk v cost and choose.

They're sending a new one out, so hopefully will have more luck with that one
