Massive dilemma, have owned a great 04 Avant 1.9 Sport Manual for about 8 months now and absolutely love it.

But after spinal surgery need a higher more versatile vehicle really do not want to part with my Avant especially after reading about all the air suspension and 2.5 turbo woes, but may have to

Any thoughts should i replace years of 1.9 tdi peace of mind for a potential rugged headache?

Maybe a decent offer of purchase on here could sway my mind : )

The best one is the 2.7 petrol but those just add another tale of woe on top of the ones the 2.5 diesel has. Make no mistake, these things are a money pit that WILL swallow more than they are worth, my business partner has one, being a partner in a VAG garage helps soften the blow, a bit!

Hi. Crasher is correct - if you are not skilled in Audi diy, an 04 Allroad WILL BE expensive. An 04 is now 15 years old (my AKE Allroad is 17 years old!) - electrical connections (for sensors, suspension compressor etc) are getting corroded and failing and need repairing/replacing. Air bags are getting past their sell-by-date. Every 70-80k miles, the cambelts, water pump, t-stat, tensioners, pulleys need replacing - I am about to change mine for the second time. Alternator, air-con compressor nearing end of life.
All of the above are big ticket items - even if you find a good independent and most certainly if you go to VAG.
You HAVE TO be able to do these jobs yourself AND find OEM or eqivalent parts on-line.
IF YOU CAN DO THE ABOVE, an Audi Allroad is a great car and will give you plenty of comfortable, enjoyable miles at a very reasonable cost to your pocket. My Allroad is today as good as the day I bought it - EVERYTHING works as it did on day one and my 2.5 TDI engine is still superb - oil and coolant only replaced at each year's service. (God I wish I had not written this! FAMOUS LAST WORDS.)
if you do decide to buy, absolute must is that you or someone runs Rosstech diagnostcs on the proposed purchase. Also get onto your laptop the said diagnostics, maintenace and parts manuals.
Let us all know what you decide to do!
