Evening! First post on here, so please be gentle!
im trying to get to the bottom of a running issue on the family wagon. The car is running poorly in higher gears under load or on any incline. This is joined by terrible misfiring and dark smoke. I have to change down and keep any acceleration very gentle. Which can be difficult in hilly Cornwall.
I had a chap check for any codes and he found a p0299 underboost issue. Had it in to our local garage where they changed the fuel filter and added the forte injector cleaner to the fuel to see if that helped. I took the egr off and cleaned it up. But it still runs poorly.
Anyone had a similar issue? I've looked on a fair few forums and read about turbos, sticky veins, injectors, injector looms and crank bearings. And, I will be getting the car diagnostics guy on to it but it's now become like a hobby in itself.

That suggests a leak in the vacuum system. There is a 3mm hose from the servo feed pipe to the “tandem” pump on the end of the head. If a vacuum is applied to this small hose, it should not be possible to draw air through it to any degree.

I've had the maf sensor out today and had a good look around the tandem pump at all of the hoses. Nothing cracked nor split and nothing hanging off where it shouldn't be. Which is a bit of a shame. Hastily put it all back together so that the wife could use the car and she swears that it's running better but there is still a misfire n some smoke. I'm not in a position to check for a vacuum, am I??

I've had the vacuum pipes disconnected today. Cannot find any air leak, which is a bit of a shame. The smoking and misfire still persist, too. Managed to throw up the check engine light whilst I had the air intake off to check the vacuum pipes.
Any further pearls of wisdom would be much appreciated.

So you disconnected the vacuum line from the servo pipe to the solenoid valve box and could draw no air? The next step would normally be to apply the suction whilst using a diagnostic system to drive the N75 ant EGR circuits to see if they have leaks or you have to remove the multi plug and apply suction to each circuit with an improvised adapter.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks Crasher. This is probably now mechanic territory, eh?. I'm only programmed to a basic level of car maintenance, which may/may not involve sucking on pipes.
The car broke down on Saturday evening- i'll start a new post. But if you're reading this then please feel free to impart any wisdom.
Driving home from 10yr olds birthday party and attempted to change gear and the clutch peddle hit the floor and stayed there. I managed to yank the car into neutral and eventually towed it home with my old peugeot (what a car!!) The slave appeared to be leaking fluid when i had a quick look underneath.
After removing the plastics and battery tray etc, I found that the slave had no bolt on one side and had sheered off of its plastic holding on the other. It had also seemed to have failed in the mechanism itself. So.... today, I have attempted to fit a new one but I cannot get any pressure in the clutch. Is there anything I can do myself to pressurise the system manually?
And...will the cluch hose nipple (where the hose meets the slave) leak a bit if not under pressure?
    Thanks in advance
