I am planing to buy 2012 A5 with Multitronic. I know this gearbox can be tricky an expensive to repair.

How to properly check it during the test drive ?

Test drive extensively, check the service record for scheduled or even proactive maintenance and a code read.

That’s the plan. The question is how to test drive this gearbox.
    My plan is as follows:
When pulling off on D gear check if there is any delay when starting. Slowly increase the RPM on car park to “just” trigger the gear change (or tpm drop) and check if it goes smoothly.
Then give it a bit of love to 4k rpm and check for delays, shaking, rattling etc.

Slow down and then accelerate rapidly to check how it drops the gear (should be smooth).

This is how I usually check the automatic gesrbox but this one doesn’t have gears
