Hi, can some please help me. I have a 2010 golf 1,6 tdi which has a miss fire on idle and a slight knock on low rev. There are no fault codes stored, but done a check on injectors om idle and they are : inj #1 mg/ stroke 3.4360. Inj #2 mg/stroke -1.6022. Inj #3 mg/stroke -1.3036. Inj#4 mg/stroke -0.4696. Does these readings tell if any injectors are duff.

It implies number 1 is faulty BUT it can be a misleading and you find it being number 3. Obviously the ideal solution is four new injectors but that would exceed the cars value. DO NOT be tempted by aftermarket injectors except genuine VDO units in sealed VDO packets, reject one that has been opened. Genuine VW injectors (03L 130 277 SX) are £476.26 each but you can get VDO units for a little less at £445Siemens VDO Injector | Euro Car Parts and it is telling they have 2811 in stock..... Remember these MUST be coded into the ECU or they will not work correctly and you must use new retaining bolts and new seals for the paired injector you have to remove.

When VAG-COM\VCDS shows a component or cylinder that refers to the cylinder in firing order not component number.

I have a very similar problem just worse. When the engine is cold anything under 2000 rpm is really really awful. Whatever you are thinking just think worse than that.

Did you take the injectors out for testing?

How did you get on with the one you replaced?

A very difficult one, if they were £500 a set fitted then you could take a deep breath, fit them and be pretty sure you were going to solve the problem and if it didn’t, well it’s not the end of the world but when they are £2500 fitted AND you are sure the near £2000 fitted high fuel pump is perfect as this can ruin new injectors, well it all gets quite frightening when you are in £5k and the thing still runs like ****!

Now that is very worrying... and no way to tell if the fuel pump is the problem?

I’ve had diesel for 12 years now.. the faultless A3 tdi sport and now this pile of junk. Might be time to go back to petrol

You can study the pumps pressures and the injector attitudes, and also check the fuel filter for swarf but in doing that you expose the pump to damage from an air lock so the system MUST be bled, this is when almost all pump failure seems to occur and it fills the injectors with swarf which you cannot get out. As you can imagine trying to advise a customer on this issue is stressful.
