Is there any reason you are trying to update the firmware? Are you having issues?
Normally Audi only updates if you have issues and there’s a new firmware available that fixes it. If everything is working I would avoid updating for the sake of it as I have seen problems with updates at dealers and it resulted in new MMI units.

    Ah
I thought it was more of an update of maps etc.
Bit tbh it seems I may be looking too much into it.

Phone around for maps. Different dealers charge different amounts.
I’ve see it as low as £150 and as high as £500 for map updates.
Map updates are safe as long as it’s from the dealers as they need activated by vin through the Audi computers. There are Mickey Mouse map update sdcards on eBay for a tenner with work arounds but if it goes wrong you can say goodbye to the MMI unit and goodbye to about a grand as well to replace the MMI unit.

Maps and firmware are two seperate things. Think A6S has misunderstood your question. As I understand it though one issue with the (RMC) maps from Audi is they are released each year in the may timeframe, but are actually based on data from Navtech that is anything up to 6 months older than that, so if you buy the new maps they now they would actually be based on 2017 data (or older!). As others have said other than not being integrated into the car a Garmin or TomTom unit is a much better proposition, especially as it has live traffic feeds from Inrix, as opposed to relying only on the limited TMC data

How did you retrofit Carplay? I might be interested in doing that. Does the MMI still work as before?
