    Hi all,

Noticed last few days that my cooling fans kick in immediately when I start the car, so I took to my local independent for scanning and they’re saying there’s a fault on fan 2, a short to Earth I think it said resulting in 2 new fans needed at £520 each, and 3.5hrs labour at £75....

    Anyone got any suggestions?
Somewhere that reconditions them or anyone have any experience with this?

    Cheers

Sounds like a fan cooling sensor to me but at 585 dollars no way. Thats crazy expensive. First why would both fans kick in if there were a short? I have never heard of a rebuilt fan motor but maybe somebody does them? Fan motors aren't common to go bad but sensors are. I would get a second opinion.

    Hi,

My fans were coming on alot, down to a faulty coolant temp sensor. You could try unplugging this and starting the car from cold. Fans on mine came on and off (temp gauge won't work with it unplugged). Part is cheap and on mine easy to fit. However I found out about this as it was difficult to start from cold (petrol 3.2 FSI) so it's a longshot.

Don't drive the car with it unplugged as it will turn on the MIL which you need VCDS to turn off.

Just a thought, maybe a bad one .....

    Good luck.

    Andy

Does anyone have an image where I could find this coolant temp sensor?

There is entire video on the 2.7 coolant temp sensor. Maybe in your country you tube has different videos. It's on the right rear side against the firewall. You have to remove an air pipe to access it. If u post ur email address i can forward it to you
