    Hi everyone,

I need your advice please. Yesterday and today my 2011 bluemotion 1.6 tdi golf decided to display a engine management light which kept flashing until I turned off the engine. There seems to be a drop in power too. I don’t have access to a error code reader so I just wondering if anybody has had similar issues before. I’m guessing I have to take it to a garage but need just want a heads up to what I could expect it to be. It’s on 56k.

    Cheers,

    Brenden

Yeah I call my local VW specialist tomorrow and see when they can check it out. Would you recommend still driving the car until then or would this be a bad idea if it’s something big gone wrong? I know it could be a lots of things...but if I took it easy?

Pay attention to drivability. If it’s in limp then it’s very unlikely to do damage but could present issues getting there. So use your judgement and proceed with caution, paying attention to engine behaviour and emissions.
If you have AA or RAC home start / recovery, this is the safe and responsible option...however perhaps is overkill. If in doubt or not confident, play safe I’d say.

With a CAYB or CAYC code engine you can almost guarantee this will be EGR valve failure, do you know if the emissions recall has been done as this is known to cause what was already a highly failure prone compnet to be even more unreliable.

Thanks for message yeah I don't know about if its had the emissions recall, I get in touch with VW and see (I only brought the car 4 months ago from a used car garage). I managed to get hold of a VAG cable and done a scan this morning - is there any clues it could be a EGR valve failure from the results?

From the scan ROD means unknown error code, current version of VCDS dataset unable to identify the fault in ÉCU. If you repeat scan after updating VCDS software, you get the actual fault. Google search on fault 7343 relates to EGR sensor.

I have loads of ROD - Unknown Error Code. They still show with the latest software.

There are loads of threads on the Ross-Tech forum.

    Possible Cause:
Possible bug in VCDS software that will be fixed on the next issue.

    Unknown
    Error Code

2012 Passat SE TDI - Unknown Error Code

29-12-2017 Not finding a ROD file is not unusual when modules that don't belong in a particular car get retrofit. I'm confident we can make a work-around for this once we're back in the office next week.

I only ever seen the ROD when I was using a cheap Ebay copy of VCDS. Never seen it again since I seen the light and bought the genuine version, like I should have done from the start.
