Just read this that is happening in York from June

York to introduce £20 fines for idling car drivers - BBC News

I actually think it is a good idea and if imposed in most towns may decrease all the pollution the "good people" keep going on about....

    Although I like this comment.....

"Officers added that electric vehicles will not be fined for idling."

Mmm... I would like to see an electric vehicle "idling" lol

I can’t see it making much difference with the range of excuses available and then they will move it onto cars at lights as mooted in London a few years ago, which with non stop/start cars will cause traffic havoc with flat batteries. What needs to be done is roadside emissions testing of private vehicles with confiscation and crushing of cars where the catalyst/DPF/EGR/SAI etc has been removed, that threat would stop most of it. Also the companies who offer the services to enable this should be prosecuted.

I have a scenario here, my car has start stop and dpf, adblue etc etc. What if my car didn't turn the engine off because it was doing a regen for example, would I still be fined? My car is euro6 and compliant in current laws.

The way I read it I think it is more to do with people that park and keep the engine running more than in traffic... I think it would be difficult to police... inspectors running the side of moving traffic lol

This would make sense around areas such as schools and hospitals and I'd happily support that.
As a Londoner, what annoys me are the black cabs that will sit and idle at taxi ranks outside busy areas

i think that i what it is aimed at, people just sitting in busy town streets with the engine running... not actual traffic..
