    Hi All,

I was driving the Golf around doing the usual Saturday run of shopping etc... Is was a mix of driving short range; switching the car on and off at the supermarket (the car does not have start stop)

Anyways after the last shop; we got back in and the engine light came on (the coil) and was flashing - and the MFD display stated 'Engine Fault - Workshop'

I had a look around the engine etc and couldnt see anything major - but when I was driving home the car was in 'limp mode' and the power definitely wasnt there...

I parked up and switched the car off and unloaded the shopping - Then went back to the car and plugged in VCDS and here is the fault:

Address 01: Engine (CBB) Labels: 03L-906-022-CBA.clb
    Part No SW: 03L 906 022 LC HW: 03L 906 022 G

    Mass Air / Rev.: 285.0 mg/str
    Temperature: 78.3°C

    Readiness: 0 0 0 0 0

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went unplugged VCDS and switched the car off; then switched the car back on and the fault had gone (i didnt clear this through VCDS) all week the car is driving normally - but this fault is still in the back of my mind - I dont want to be in a position where I have to fork out Łkkk's where if its possible I could find a remedy early on?

Does the car just need a long drive at 40MPH? in 3rd gear or just 70mph for a few hours?

    Thanks for the help!

One of my customers had this last night, she dropped in just after six and a quick code read showed the same fault. The 2L is not as prone to this as the 1.6 but it is still a major problem. Don’t be tempted by non genuine aftermarket units, I tried this a few times with units from Euro Car Parts and they all failed, a replacement for a warranty failure with a more expensive version did not even get off the lift before playing up!

    Hey Crasher, Thanks for replying!
So your effectively saying that there's no cure - just a replacement if the car goes back in limp-mode?
My car is 2009 Plate; I don't think I will be able to claim this under warranty with VW right?

**Side Note: I have decided not to do the Emissions Recall on my car**

The warranty is three years and you can sometimes get goodwill upto four...... but not ten..... even Hyundai would tell you to do one!

    Hmm..

In your opinion how many labour hours would be needed for this repair?

**Side Note: I have decided not to do the Emissions Recall on my car**

If I were you I would have the emissions update applied, after deleting any fault codes.

Have a look at this article -
Volkswagen pledges to rectify problems caused by Dieselgate software fix | Autocar

VW call it their " Trust Building Measure ".

Basically, if after the emissions fix you have a problem with any of the emissions related components, which includes the EGR valve within 2 years, VW will fix it FOC.

We charge 7 hours to do one, the VW book time is just over 5.5 hours but it takes a lot longer than that as they do not account for some tasks that must be performed.

The only problem is then he will have to get it remapped back to standard as the recall makes them run badly.

As I’ve recently had my EGR replaced under warranty by vw. Would you recommend getting my car amped back to standard? How much would this cost roughly? I have been thinking that the EGR will just clog up again as it’s the new software that’s causing it....

suppose id better get the other issues sorted first though....
