Has anybody successfully fitted mk 7 golf heated seats into a mk 5 ? my 2004 gt tdi has all the connections for heated seats / yellow airbag / seat occupancy. I fitted and adapted a mk 5 seat side harness for the airbags drivers side and passengers - wiring was the same colour, just a different plug. seat occupancy sensor on the drivers side fitted with no modification, but the passenger side seat had a 4 wire connection. ive wired it up, wrongly obviously ! as vcds wont clear the airbag fault. Will this be the seat occupancy on the passenger side not being wired properly-it just alarms constantly on the dash and with annoying bell chime accompaniment !! currently unplugged with much head scratching going on.

Once thats sorted I only need to work out how to wire the heated seats (!) and fix the brake pressure sensor (eek!)

any help would be much appreciated

any ideas anybody ? local indy thinks they might be incompatible with the older control module - 2 phase versus single phase or something. Might have to look at resistors to mod them out of the system so i can clear the airbag lights

Hi. Not sure how much help this might be but I have read on other forums that the mk5 golf software for the air bag circuit changed around 2006. Your earlier 2004 golf may not be compatible with the later golf air bag circuit. I am in the middle of a project to replace my mk6 2012 match golf seats (front and rear) for mk7 GTD seats. The seats I bought are heated but I need to carry out a lot of modifications to get those to work. That's not important at this stage. The driver seat as far as I can see is plug and play. (Heated seat part is not included in my project). Air bag and seat belt plugs identical. I am confident the air bag circuit will be compatible but yet to prove that. I have to change the wiring on the passenger side as the seat belt and seat occupancy circuits terminate at a 4 wire plug. I have to modify this to a 2 wire plug but have already seen tips how to do this. My headache has been the rear seats. Mk7 seats DO NOT fit mk6 or mk5 golfs. Mk7 Centre seat belt mount is different, rear bench seat foam shape does not allow this part of the seat to be fitted, ISO connectors are a different pitch and the pivot pin locations on the backrest sides of the seats are in a slightly different location which do not allow the backrests to pivot into position. The seat assembly however is the same width. I have modified the base part of the seat by trimming the foam from the original mk7 shape and re-clipped the fabric around the newly shaped foam to the seat wire frame from a Mk6. That's complete and it now fits. I am now modifying the backrest metal frames from the mk7 (having stripped fabric and foam) to reposition the pivot pins. This is still in progress. In heindsight I should have waited for a set of mk6 gtd seats but I'm committed and I like a challenge. Best of luck with yours.

Hi Rod, cheers for the info. I've got a load of steering and ABS faults to work through at the moment so hoping the airbag fault will be part of that. I'd be really interested to see how the 4 wires into 2 for the passenger seat occupancy works - do you have a link ? With the seats, I didnt realise mine were mk 7 seats when I bought them and the centre seatbelt had been cut (aborted T4 project!). Was a bit of a job but I managed to fit a replacement centre seatbelt into the mk7 bench from a mk 5. Other than a bit of swearing and brute force i managed to get the mk 7 rear bench to fit. I knocked the seat back anchors down an inch with a medium sized persuader ! The kids find belting the seats up a wee bit tricky but hoping they will settle down with use and as the leather softens a bit.

Best of luck with your project, its so worth it. The R interior looks amazing ! really lifts the car.

Hi Brian. Glad you managed to get the seats to fit in the end. I've just completed all the modifications to my Mk7 rear bench seat and both backrest sections from a GTD. Did you manage to get the backrest sections to pivot completely down when delatched. I found the bottom corner on the metalwork of the backrest frame fouled in the corners nearest each door on my Mk6 so I ground the corner from the frame when the fabric had been removed. Like you, I changed the centre seat belt assembly for a Mk6 unit. This was easy to swap over after removing the fabric and foam from the backrest. I plan to fit the rear bench assembly and front seats to my Mk6 this weekend. Will send details of the wiring change I plan to carry out on the passenger side front seat. Assuming it works. Fingers crossed all goes well with the fitting.

Yeah they fold forward no problem. Good luck with the fitting, it looks really good when finished. Do you plan to do the mods to get the heating working ? keep me posted as I'd like to get mines hooked up. Its starting to get a wee bit cold up north again !

Hi again. Seats all fitted. They look great but have run into a little problem with the passenger seat occupancy sensor. I have found out since fitting the seats that if the passenger seat is replaced the seat occupancy recognition has to be reset using VCDS. Typical as I have a diagnostic tool but not VCDS. Looking to get a local diagnostic centre to look at it for me. I mentioned the wiring to the seat belt socket and seat occupancy being different on the Mk7. When I replaced the seats I removed the wiring loom connecting the belt socket and seat occupancy sensor from my mark 6 passenger seat and swapped it for the wiring loom on the mk7 seat. Ended up an easier fix. As for the heating, I have downloaded a step by step guide to do this but it involves replacing part of the heater control facia, dismantling the dash on the drivers side to access the fuse box and removing the centre console to fit the wiring. I don't plan to do this anytime soon. It's a big job and it's not high on my list.
