    NEW TO ALL THIS!
Im after some advice , my daughter has a audi a3 (bkd)
unfortunately the head gasket went and boiled over several times apparently after constant top ups.
and also cutting out when driving....

Ive replaced the cylinder head gasket with new bolts.
fitted new cam belt kit along with water pump.
also full service of engine (found black fuel in filter) replaced tandem pump.
    flushed fuel tank out
fitted new lift pump unit in tank (blocked)
    fitted new cam shaft sensor.
fitted new egr valve at manifold end .
stripped and cleaned rear egr control valve and tested heat exchanger.
stripped turbo and cleaned vanes (variable vanes jammed).

ive only got snap on diag to test cleared all errors.
started car ran several times on tick over sometimes upto 30 mins plus
drive 500 yards down the road no warnings on dash engine dies?
get it towed back turn key several cranks starts left on tickover all ok only when I take it down the road it cuts out and refuses to start
    anybody got any ideas?
ive spent days on this trying different things and ways also costing a fortune.

    thanks in advance

You would be shocked how often we get cars dragged in here with that problem.

ill go and have a look.
left car running on tickover for at least 30 mins.sweet as a nut until i drove it round block....
yep my mistake they were the opposite way round .
question is why would it run on tickover with the pipes reversed?
is there some mystical audi magic going on.

This caught me out a few years ago on a CR TDI, the return is in the swirl pot so it will pick fuel up from there being drawn through by the supplementary electric pump (in your case the tandem pump), that had me going around in circles for days, I was cursing the birthright of the breakdown chap who did it!

well gone have the days of simple engines .what ever happened to a distributor cap 4 plugs .and all you need was a dwell meter!
or a simple injector pump running 4 injectors with a stop solenoid on it !
curse this new technology!!! ecu s can bus controllers high pressure pumps .piezo electric injectors which need to be programmed!
hopefully this will work and i can give the car back to the daughter and ill get my golf back....
dont think ive heard the last of this car.
anybody got any idea how much vagcom is think i need to invest in .
already got vcds with a vag178 cable but cant get it to work with crack? any young ones will take two mins to set up but im on wrong side of 50 !!!!
and engines i work on is no smaller than 4 litre all the way to 184 litre .

thanks crasher! might be in need of some more help from all trying to resolve further issues.

by the way! as a matter of interest!
