    And problem solved !

Thanks to Crasher for his patience - I work away from home and wanted to have all the necessary info to hand before I started, to ideally solve in one session.

5 minutes with the vac tester identified that the turbo actuator is leaking - it is impossible to pull any vacuum on the actuator body with a direct connx to the Mityvac.

I see 27 inches at the vacuum pump, the inlet and outlet of the N345 EGR cooler valve and at the inlet to the N75 actuator boost valve.

As soon as the N75 actuator valve opens, the vacuum is vented to air and the system sees a vacuum fault - Hence the generic P0401 error code.

I was expecting that one of the valves or hoses would have failed, rather than an expensive component but at least I can order what I need ready for next time I am home.

Is it practical, or worthwhile to replace the actuator on a CBAB engine - do I need to worry about re calibration of the actuator stroke when replacing the original actuator ?

Is there a quality aftermarket supplier for the turbo actuator that you would recommend ?

    Again, thanks

VW offer a repair kit but it is a bit of a pain to fit and set up.

    OK, a quick update ...

I sourced a new actuator from BTN Turbo - I installed it and set the throw by setting the actuator output voltage at the wiring connx.

The EGR vacuum errors have cleared, but I am now seeing P2563 errors, due to the dynamic actuator position feedback being out of scope.

I need to get VCDS - looking online, it seems to be a minefield unless you pay RossTech for a full kit.

There are many cable suppliers on eBay, but I haven't got a clue where to start ?

Do I need to pay for the VCDS, VCDS Lite registered version at £90 to be able to set my Turbo Actuator voltage levels.

    Many thanks

To me Ross-Tech are shooting themselves in the foot with the new VCDS cable. Where you buy a CDS HEX-V2 Enthusiast 3 VIN $199 10 VIN $299, 10 VIN unlimited VIN cable at different prices. The original VCDS cable was unlimited £350, have never been cheap. Even the new VCDS-Mobile HEX-NET is over priced as everyone uses mobile phones.

I understand they won't to stop the cheap Chinese cloned cables but this isn't the way to do it.

They have also punished all those people who invested in genuine cables previously BUT the people to blame are those that buy the cheap clones, not the people who make them as if there was no market they wouldn’t make them. If I get wind of a question being asked using stolen software then I won’t get involved.
